Math Exam reviewer for Investment, Mixture & Motion Word Problems

Part I. Equation/Representation Writing
Directions: Write an equation or representation based on the given situation. [If you’re going to use decimals, round them off to the nearest whole number.]

Equations only
1.Car A departs the parking lot at 1pm traveling at 80kph. Car B leaves the same parking lot after 10 minutes traveling in the same direction at 90 kph. If x represents the time Car B took to reach Car A, write an equation to solve for x.


2.20% strength and 40% strength solutions will be mixed to make a 25% strength solution. The volume of the 40% strength solution is 50ml less than the 20% strength solution. If b represents the 40% strength solution, write an equation to solve for b.


3.There are 2 sacks of M&M’s, one selling at Php30/kilo and another selling at Php50/kilo. They will be mixed together to create a variety of 42 kilos which will be sold at Php28/kilo. If t represents the number of kilos from the Php30/kilo sack, write an equation to solve for t.

4. Complete the table below.

In a tip jar there are Php20, Php50 and Php100 – bills. There are 6 more Php100 bills than Php50 bills. The number of Php20 bills is seven more than thrice the number of Php100 bills.

2.Two cars 565 kilometers apart are heading towards each other at speeds of 60kph and 53kph. After how many hours will they meet?


3.How many ml of syrup must be added to a 40ml iced tea with 2% syrup concentration in order to create a mixture that has 10% syrup concentration?
